Most UK businesses do not have an SEO problem. They have a diagnosis problem. Traffic is flat, someone suggests "we should do more SEO", and six months of blog posts get published against keywords nobody buys from. The rankings that matter never move because the thing holding the site back was never content in the first place.

We start every engagement by finding out which of the four constraints is actually binding: crawl and indexation, page-level relevance, authority, or conversion. Only one of them is usually the bottleneck. Fixing the other three first is how agencies burn twelve months of retainer without moving revenue.

01

What SEO services actually cover

Search engine optimisation is four distinct disciplines that happen to share a reporting dashboard. Treating them as one blended service is why so much SEO spend produces nothing measurable.

  • Technical SEO — making sure search engines can reach, render, understand and index your pages. Crawl budget, JavaScript rendering, canonicalisation, site speed, structured data.
  • Content and on-page — matching pages to the intent behind the query, and covering the topic well enough that the page deserves the position it is asking for.
  • Authority — earning references from sites that already have trust in your sector. In the UK this means trade press, industry bodies, universities and genuine editorial coverage, not link marketplaces.
  • Conversion — turning the sessions into enquiries. Traffic that does not convert is a cost, not a result.

A retainer with us allocates effort across all four, but weighted by whichever is currently costing you the most. That weighting gets reviewed every quarter and changes as the site improves.

02

Who this is for

This service fits UK businesses with a working product and a functioning sales process who need more qualified demand at the top of the funnel. It works particularly well for:

  • B2B service firms with a defined geography or vertical, where a handful of additional enquiries per month changes the year.
  • eCommerce operations on Shopify, WooCommerce or Magento with a catalogue large enough that category and product-level structure matters.
  • Multi-location businesses where local pack visibility drives footfall or enquiries.
  • SaaS and software companies competing on comparison, alternative and integration search terms.

It is a poor fit if you need results inside eight weeks, if your product has no existing search demand, or if you are unwilling to change anything on the website. We will say so at the audit stage rather than take the retainer.

03

How UK search differs

Optimising for the UK is not optimising for the US with the spelling changed. Several things genuinely differ:

  • Spelling splits the keyword. "Optimisation" and "optimization" return overlapping but distinct result sets. So do "specialise", "analyse", "colour" and dozens of others. Getting this wrong halves your reachable volume.
  • Geography is granular. UK searchers qualify by town, borough and county far more than by region. "SEO agency Stockport" is a real query with real intent; "SEO agency North West" is much vaguer.
  • Scotland and Northern Ireland have separate legal systems. Any content touching law, property, employment or contracts written for England and Wales is factually wrong in Scotland.
  • Trust signals are different. Companies House registration, trade body membership and UK review platforms carry weight that US-style badges do not.
  • Google.co.uk and Google.com return different results for the same query. Rank tracking configured against the wrong one produces numbers that mean nothing.

What the first 90 days look like

The opening quarter is diagnostic and foundational. Nothing compounds until the base is clean.

Weeks 1–3. Full technical crawl, log file review where available, Search Console and Analytics audit, keyword and SERP mapping, competitor gap analysis. You get a prioritised issue list scored by impact and effort, not a 200-page PDF.

Weeks 4–8. Critical technical fixes ship. Indexation is brought under control, redirect chains resolved, structured data implemented, Core Web Vitals brought inside threshold. Page templates get on-page work. Internal linking is restructured around the pages that need to rank.

Weeks 9–12. Content production starts against the mapped opportunities, and the first authority work begins. Baselines are locked so that every subsequent month reports against a fixed reference point.

Meaningful ranking movement on competitive UK commercial terms typically appears between months four and seven. Anyone promising it sooner is either targeting terms with no competition or is not being straight with you.

05

Reporting and what we measure

Every month you get a report that leads with commercial metrics and treats rankings as a diagnostic, not a result.

  • Qualified organic enquiries and their source pages.
  • Organic sessions to money pages, split from brand and blog traffic.
  • Ranking distribution across the tracked keyword set, not a cherry-picked selection.
  • Indexation coverage and crawl errors.
  • Core Web Vitals field data from CrUX, not lab scores.
  • Citation rate across AI answer surfaces on your priority queries.
  • What shipped, what did not, and why.

You keep access to everything. Search Console, Analytics, rank tracking and the audit documents stay in your accounts. If the relationship ends, nothing leaves with us.

How we work

  1. 1 Diagnose Establish which of the four constraints — crawl, relevance, authority or conversion — is actually limiting the site. Everything else follows from this.
  2. 2 Fix the foundations Resolve indexation, speed and structural issues first. Content and links do not compound on a broken base.
  3. 3 Map intent to pages Every target keyword gets exactly one page. This is what prevents cannibalisation, and it is the step most retainers skip.
  4. 4 Build depth, then reach Cover each topic properly before widening the footprint. Topical depth is what earns the right to rank on competitive terms.
  5. 5 Measure and reallocate Quarterly review against commercial outcomes. Work that is not producing gets stopped, not continued because it was in the plan.

Frequently asked questions

How long before we see results from SEO?
On low-competition and long-tail terms, four to eight weeks. On competitive UK commercial head terms, four to seven months before meaningful movement, and twelve months before the position is stable. Technical fixes can produce faster gains where indexation or speed was the constraint — occasionally within a fortnight.
How much do SEO services cost in the UK?
Our retainers run from £450/month for a focused single-service scope to £1,800+/month for multi-location or large-catalogue work. Published ranges are on our pricing page. Anything under about £400/month in the UK cannot fund enough senior hours to move a competitive term, whatever the proposal says.
Do you require a long contract?
No. We work on a rolling monthly basis after an initial three-month commitment, which exists because the first quarter is foundational work that does not produce reportable results on its own. After that you can stop with 30 days' notice.
Will you guarantee first-page rankings?
No, and you should treat any agency that does as a serious warning sign. Nobody controls Google's ranking systems. What we commit to is a documented scope, a fixed reporting cadence, and honest reporting when something is not working.
Do you work with businesses outside the UK?
Yes, though our content, keyword research and market knowledge are strongest for UK search. We also work with international clients where the target market is English-language.
What happens to our data if we stop working together?
Nothing. Search Console, Analytics, rank tracking and every audit document sit in accounts you own. We are added as users and removed on request. You keep the full history.
