Links still carry more weight than any other off-page factor, which is why the market for buying them is so large and so consistently disappointing. Marketplace links come from sites built to sell links, have no genuine audience, and increasingly get discounted to zero — leaving you with the cost and the risk and none of the benefit.

The alternative is slower and works: give publications a reason to reference you. That means original data, genuinely useful resources, and expert commentary that a journalist can actually use.

01

What we build and what we refuse

What we build: editorial mentions in UK trade press and sector publications; coverage earned through original data and research; expert commentary and quote placement; genuine guest contributions to publications with real readerships; resource and reference links from universities, industry bodies and professional associations; reclaimed unlinked brand mentions; and foundational profiles on legitimate directories and review platforms.

What we refuse: private blog networks, paid link marketplaces, bulk directory submissions, comment and forum profile spam, link exchange schemes, and any arrangement whose only purpose is passing PageRank. These are explicit link scheme violations. They also, more practically, do not work any more — and the cleanup cost when they are discounted or penalised exceeds whatever was saved.

02

Original data is the strongest asset

The highest-yield link building asset is a statistic that exists nowhere else. Journalists need numbers, and a business with operational data has numbers that no competitor can publish.

Most companies are sitting on this without realising. Aggregate, anonymised patterns from your own operations — pricing trends, seasonality, regional variation, demand shifts — are publishable and genuinely newsworthy to trade press. One well-executed data piece routinely earns more referring domains than a year of guest posting, and the links keep arriving long after the campaign ends because the page becomes the citable source.

How we work

  1. 1 Audit what exists Establish the current profile, anchor distribution and any genuine risk before adding anything.
  2. 2 Find the gap Analyse where competitors earn links that you do not, and which of those sources are realistically reachable.
  3. 3 Build something worth linking to Data, tools or resources. Outreach without an asset is just asking for favours.
  4. 4 Outreach to real publications Targeted, relevant, personalised. Volume outreach to generic lists produces nothing but spam complaints.
  5. 5 Maintain steady velocity Consistent monthly acquisition rather than campaign spikes.

Frequently asked questions

How many backlinks do we need?
The wrong question. What matters is how many relevant referring domains you have compared to the sites currently ranking for your target terms. That number is different for every keyword. We benchmark against the actual competitive set rather than against a target count.
Is buying links safe if nobody finds out?
It is an explicit link scheme violation, and the practical risk is not just penalty — it is that marketplace links are increasingly discounted to zero, so you pay and receive nothing. We do not buy links and we will not manage a campaign that does.
How long until link building affects rankings?
Individual links can influence rankings within weeks of being crawled. The compounding effect on domain-level authority takes six to twelve months to become clear. Link building is the slowest-paying SEO discipline and the one most often abandoned just before it starts working.
What is digital PR and how is it different?
Digital PR earns links as a by-product of coverage rather than by asking for them. You give a publication a story — usually data or expert commentary — and the link comes with the article. The links are more valuable and the coverage has independent brand value.
Should we disavow bad links?
Only with a genuine case: a manual action, or a clear history of paid link building. Google ignores most low-quality links without help, and reflexive disavowing removes links that were passing value. We audit and classify before recommending it.
How many links will we get per month?
We target three to eight quality referring domains per month depending on scope and sector, rising as linkable assets mature. Any agency quoting a fixed high monthly number is describing a marketplace, because genuine editorial placement cannot be guaranteed by volume.
